Obama’s budget to call for slashing oil tax breaks, boosting clean energy – The Hill’s E2-Wire

The administration has also proposed major cuts to a program that provides financial assistance for low-income Americans who are having trouble paying their heating bills. The budget request  proposes cutting the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program by $2.5 billion.[Source: The Hill. Imagine what our young innocents, our children, have to contend with in hard economic times.  They have no voice.

Research suggests that, on average, families need an income of about twice the federal poverty level to meet their most basic needs. Children living in families with incomes below this level—$44,100 for a family of four in 2010—are referred to as low income. The United States measures poverty by an outdated standard developed in the 1960s. [Source: NCCP]

Children in the United States, by Income Level, 2009

In United States, there are 40,707,328 families, with 74,219,201 children.

Low-Income Children: 42% (31,298,590) of children live in low-income families, defined as income below 200% of the federal poverty level. [NCCP]

It will, of course, fall to the democrats and independents in the Congress to champion the rights and well-being of the economically challenged.  Those who benefited from Obama’s GREAT COMPROMISE OF 2010 live in luxury year-round. No wood or coal stoves or having to deal with smell and danger of kerosene lights and heating. Long waits for the oil man.  Yes, some Americans still live in the 1900s when it comes to energy sources in the home. Support your members in Congress by sharing your concerns and ideas.

Seniors, to his credit, Obama provides assistance for this fiscal year. Yes, this is the same aid he proposes to cut!

Morning Maddow: February 14 – Tricia McKinney
It’s the most romantic day of the year: budget day! Rep. Paul Ryan hasn’t seen the president’s budget, but he already knows he doesn’t like it. Ditto Speaker Boehner. TX Gov. Rick Perry says the federal government should be more like Texas.
