Blitzkrieg: German, “lightning war”; is an anglicized word… describing all-mechanized force concentration of tanks, infantry, artillery and air power, concentrating overwhelming force at high speed to break through enemy lines, and, once the latter is broken, proceeding without regard to its flank. Through constant motion, the blitzkrieg attempts to keep its enemy off-balance, making it difficult to respond effectively at any given point before the front has already moved on.

Blitzkrieg worked in World War II…but cannot provide us a speedy end to our war in Afghanistan.  We have 130,000 troops there which are not acting as superb killing machines, but are engaged in NATION BUILDING.  This war has gone on for over a decade.  It is said our generals would like to continue there for another decade.  We spend billions to conduct this war instead of making our homeland secure.  We say that we’d rather fight our enemies “over there than fight them at home.”

Former President George W. Bush

America may be the most powerful military power on earth, but, what possessed George Bush to think that we could be successful in Afghanistan when armies from Alexander to the USSR failed to establish civilization there.  Democracy is the fairest form of government we know and many oppressed people are trying to obtain it.  Afghanistan has never been a “country” and the good we are doing there will collapse when we leave. Why? This culture does not “feel” what it is like to be a united country with a central government. It was sheer arrogance of President George Bush‘s delusion that we could form a lasting democracy there.  I think we should ask President Karzai to address both houses of Congress and justify the war and the tolerance of corruption in Afghanistan.  Ask him to give an assessment of nogotiations with the Taliban. The American people would like to hear about the war from the perspective of the other side.  Ah!  If only we could fight the war in the European tradition, we could declare victory in short order!

President Obama is in his process of deciding how many troops to withdraw

President Barack Obama

from Afghanistan beginning in July. 5000? 10,000?  What’s your assessment?  How much longer should the 30,000 “surge” troop remain? When should we declare victory and bring the last 70,000 troops home?  Answers would come with ease if we dare risk being called quitters and cowards if when we leave Afghanistan goes to hell.
