Just hours ago, President Obama asked EPA AdministratorLisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed new national ozone standards, delaying until at least 2013 a safeguard that would protect our families from dangerous smog pollution.
I am appalled — this delay will literally cost lives.
This issue couldn’t be more urgent:Half of U.S. families live in communities where the air is literally unsafe to breathe — and President Obama is looking the other way.
A new standard for smog would prevent up to 12,000 premature deaths, 5,300 heart attacks and tens of thousands of asthma attacks and other serious respiratory illnesses each year — yet the President has simply kicked the can down the road.
Despite a year of intense grassroots pressure by Sierra Club volunteers and our allies, President Obama has caved to corporate special interests who put profit above all else, including the health of our families.
Tell the President that a healthy economy requires clean air and healthy people. These protections from smog would have improved our communities and saved billions of dollars in health costs. Letting the polluters off the hook won’t save lives, won’t create jobs and won’t fuel innovation. It will just keep thousands of people sick and kill others prematurely from the pollution in our air.
Ex-Gov. Sarah Palin teased the media by promising an event on Sept. 3 where she might announce for the Presidency. Now she teases with a new date: The end of September. Mrs. Palin has yet to say or do anything that would signal a run for the Presidency, yet, the media follows her pheromones. Sarah has been around a long time. We think we know her. In this election season we should not forget how she started her celebrity:
Activist and transgender,Chaz Bono, is supported by his mother, the legendary CHER. Celebrity lawyer, Nancy Grace, tells haters and those who accuse ABC of a “homosexual agenda,” to find something better to do. If there was a “homosexual agenda,” I say that it would the same as the “American agenda” which is to seek and love the rights and freedoms all Americans can enjoy in the pursuit of happiness. Isn’t that true for you? Yes? Then from now on, support EQUAL CIVIL RIGHTS FOR ALL AMERICANS! Watch this coverage on CNN:
Thank you for writing. I have heard from many Americans who are losing their jobs and struggling to pay their bills. Every day, I meet with my economic advisors to make sure we are doing all we can to create good jobs and to help Americans support their families and pursue the American dream.
However, many Americans are still struggling to find employment and provide for their families. To assist workers looking for jobs, I signed into law the Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act, extending unemployment benefits beyond what existed in the Recovery Act. To restore desperately needed assistance to Americans who lost their jobs in the recession, I also signed into law the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2010, as well as an extension of COBRA benefits.
My Administration is also helping Americans return to work by emphasizing job training in industries that cannot be outsourced. Recently laid-off workers receiving unemployment benefits have new opportunities to pursue higher education and job training programs, including easier access to Pell Grants. To encourage job creation in the United States, I am replacing tax laws that send jobs overseas with new incentives to create them here at home. Available assistance can be found online at http://go.usa.gov/aU7 or www.Opportunity.gov.
Together, we can help more Americans find and keep good jobs and enjoy a healthy standard of living. To find an employment center near you, select your state at: www.dol.gov/dol/location.htm. For information on benefits and opportunities for those seeking employment, I encourage you to visit: http://go.usa.gov/aUA. For career resources, call 1-877-872-5627 or visit: www.CareerOneStop.org. While it will take time to turn our economy around, I am confident that, working together, we will emerge from this crisis stronger than before.
