The Young Turks - CURRENT TV

Cenk Uygur

A quote you see everywhere is Gandhi’s line about being the change you want to see in the world. Since I’m a corny guy, I took that to heart. Here are some of the main problems with the establishment media that I want to help change:

1. They are the establishment. They don’t challenge the politicians, the government or the system. They are perfectly content to help maintain the status quo.

2. They trade access for positive coverage. In order to get political officials on their shows, they treat them with kid gloves. The single largest factor in making political decisions is campaign donations, yet they almost never ask them about that or talk about it on any of their shows.

3. They do non-stop talking points, yet no one ever says anything. It’s just people talking past each other in a very boring, scripted movie we’ve seen before.

4. They confuse neutrality with objectivity. If the Cowboys and Steelers play and the Steelers win 21-0, and you say the Cowboys and Steelers both played equally well – you have lied to your audience. You are neutral, but nowhere near objective.

So, we set out to do a political talk show where we break all of those rules. This is the beginning. We hope you join us somewhere down this road. Together, let’s be the change we want to see in the media. [QUOTE: Huffington Post]

    • Hi! Thanks for stopping by and for commenting. However, I was disappointed with your saying you’re an Armenian American yet express intolerance against several other ethnicities. That’s is not American. Remember the words on the Statue of Liberty:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame
      With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame,
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

by Emma Lazarus, New York City, 1883

Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Please come back!

  4. The only way to change the MEDIA is for you to leave it, Uygur. Turks must admit their part in the genocide of 2.5 million Armenians between 1915-1920 and only then can then start to think about changing anything else.

    • You blame Cenk for those deaths? Should I blame present-day white Americans for the enslavement and death of my African ancestors? My people were promised “40 acres and a mule.” We never got them. Should we descendents ask for interest? Should the German government pay reparations for the 6 million Jews they killed in WWII? What I am trying to say is now Cenk is American. How can you link him to admisssion of Turkish guilt for events before his birth? I may not have prperly defended my position, but, I do appreicate your stopping by, reading and leaving a comment. PLEASE COME BACK!

  7. Cenk is a raging and unapologetic sexist.

He also consistently does sensationalist and factually inaccurate stories about police and firefighters, spreading misinformation and breeding hostility between citizens and first responders.

Worse yet, when told about the problems with his incorrect, emotionally manipulative reporting, Cenk literally scoffs and sticks to whatever story he made up. There have been two separate occasions when my informed criticisms of his reporting were brought to his attention, and he literally scoffed. He believes he understands the fire service just as well as firefighters do.

If you believe that he has one shred of respect for what you say, citizen journalist, I encourage you to look at this blog post. http://medic343.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/open-letter-to-cenk-uygur-the-beef-goes-on/

Check out the way he spits the word “blogger” like it’s a turd in his mouth.

I recommend we all go to just listening to each other and deciding for ourselves, rather than buying into the same old egotistical, sexist, self-serving nonsense.
