Governor Nikki Haley may be “Proud to be Indian,” but she sides with the white power structure in her state, South Carolina, which has passed laws to suppress the voting power of blacks, Latinos and, especially, the elderly, by requiring that they have photo ID to vote in elections beginning in 2012. When there was a backlash, Gov. Haley said that she “personally” would provide transportation to the 200,000 South Carolinians who needed to go and purchase photo ID to be able to vote in 2012. What has she done to keep her promise? I went to Google to get an answer. Browsing through 4 pages of top responses showed to activity past September:
Oct 20, 2011 – … areas by the percentage of seniors with poor access to public transportation, now … Only 25 South Carolina residents have scheduled a free ride to obtain a photo ID on Wednesday as part of an effort by the state to show that …Gov. Nikki Haley promised anyone without proper ID that the state would offer …
Nikki Haley and her fellow Republican governors are “Solving a Problem That Doesn’t Exist.” I found a shocking statement that contradicts Haley’s pride in her heritage which explains why she is not working hand-in-hand with blacks and Latinos in South Carolina to reverse the state’s history of racial discrimination:
Democrats bashed Haley’s move as a “political stunt.”
Although South Carolina elected an Indian as governor, the influx of Latinos into the state is not welcomed. The presence of the descendants of South Carolina’s African slaves still gives whites an uncomfortable feeling. It is hoped that the investigation by US Attorney General into the voter suppression law will lead to justice for the 200,000 South Carolinians who are losing their civil right to vote.
Even Republican masterminds are getting debate fatigue. Political operativeKarl Rove took a swipe at this year’s nonstop forums in The Wall Street Journal today, writing that while they’ve given the GOP candidates more airtime to make a case, they’ve also “nearly crippled campaigns, chewing into the precious time each candidate has to organize, raise money, set themes, roll out policy and campaign.” Plus, he says, the media gets too much power to control the narrative, furnishing an endless supply of confrontations and soundbites: “For good or ill, this year’s record-breaking mass of debates has made the contest the most unpredictable, rapidly shifting, and often downright inexplicable primary race I’ve ever witnessed.” Well put.
Unfortunately, I was in the arms of Morpheus during the GOP debate last night. I missed seeing Michele Bachmann call Newt Gingrich out for being a lobbyist even though he had no registration. Everybody and their mother knows that Newt thinks that his “National Figure” status gives him special privileges. And, as I have said before, Newt has created his own truth in his mind that if he operates as a lobbyist,
BUT has no license, then he “factually” is not a lobbyist and this is right in his mind and he cannot entertain any other distinction. As George Costanza (The Seinfeld Show) said, “If you believe it is not a lie, then it is not a lie.” Wow! Life imitating art! Newt, the jig is up. You were a lobbyist who pocketed $1.6 Million dollars for your services and later lied that you were paid to be a “historian.”Speaker Gingrich, “smartest man in the room,” the American people are not the fools you need us to be.
In these most serious of times since the Civil Rights era, we cannot deal with Newt Gingrich’s psychiatric ideation. We need to move on to candidates who CAN’T WAIT TO CHANGE WASHINGTON. Not to profit from the economic calamity of 30 years of decline orchestrated in secret by anti-American and anti-Christian machinations of rich Republicans like the Koch brotherset als who are not common names. I ask these charlatans, “What is your ultimate vision of America’s future? Come out of the darkness. Be a man and tell us the evil outcome you seek to foist upon us and our children.” You are rich, very rich. And, you know that “Money is the root of all evil.” You cannot ignore the human condition: “You can’t take it with you.” We who love the America our forefathers set in motion. We still subscribe to their values and goals. WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK! Take your money and power and go somewhere else and live out your lost, miserable existence in luxury. Let us work to restore America in peace. The world needs us and, ultimately, we have God on our side. He will provide us true American politicians who hate the evil and power of seduction of money. TAKE MONEY OUT OF POLITICS!
Will Republicans right the ship of their party and its future? Time will tell. Thank God for the Democratic Party which loves the common man and works for him to secure “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” The middle-class will rise again!
