The U.S. unemployment rate in October edged lower, to 5.8% from 5.9%, signaling continued improvement in the job market, the government reported today.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report is consistent with a slow but steady economic recovery.
Economists had forecast a slightly larger increase in jobs but no change in the unemployment rate.
