Police are escorting people from the kosher market in eastern Paris where authorities said hostages were being held, CNN’s Saskya Vandoorne reports from the scene. This comes after explosions and gunfire could be heard at the site. CNN affiliate BFMTV reports police had launched an assault on the store.
At about the same time, three loud explosions and gunfire were reported at the site of another hostage standoff north of Paris, as French security forces launched what appeared to be an assault on the premises where authorities said two terrorist suspects — the Kouachi brothers — were believed to be holed up.
The brothers are suspected of killing 12 people in and around the provocative satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris this week.
