“JERUSALEM – The Capital of Israel (1/6)” – Speaker Rich Schmidt

A poster praising US President Donald Trump covers an outside section of the “Diplomat Hotel”, adjacent to the US consulate in Jerusalem which will host the new US embassy, on May 11, 2018.
The United States moves its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem next week in defiance of the Palestinians and most of the world, likely further heightening tensions at a time of tumult in the region. US President Donald Trump is set to make good on his pledge in December when he broke with decades of precedent and recognised the disputed city as Israel’s capital to global outcry.

MAUNDY THURSDAY

Simon_ushakov_last_supper_1685

Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy ThursdayCovenant ThursdayGreat and Holy ThursdaySheer Thursday and Thursday of Mysteries) is the Christian feast, or holy day, falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with theApostles as described in the Canonical gospels.[1] It is the fifth day of Holy Week, and is preceded bySpy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday.[2]

The date is always between 19 March and 22 April inclusive, but these dates fall on different days depending on whether the Gregorian or Julian calendar is used liturgically. Eastern churches generally use the Julian calendar, and so celebrate this feast throughout the 21st century between 1 April and 5 May in the more commonly used Gregorian calendar. The liturgy held on the evening of Maundy Thursday initiates the Easter Triduum, the period which commemorates the passiondeath, andresurrection of Christ; this period includes Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and ends on the evening ofEaster.[1][3] The mass or service of worship is normally celebrated in the evening, when Friday begins according to Jewish tradition, as the Last Supper was held on feast of Passover.[4]

“What Does Jesus Mean by the Parable of the Fig Tree (Matthew 24:32)?” – Church of the Great God

Some have thought—incorrectly—that Jesus is saying that the seasons are indistinguishable except by the budding of trees. Notice what Jesus actually says in Matthew 24:32: “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.” He is simply using the budding of the fig tree to illustrate a point about His second coming.

When spring comes and the trees put out new leaves, we know that summer is not far off. In the same way, we will know Christ’s return is near when we see the events He mentions earlier in the chapter begin to occur. Verse 33 provides the key to His parable: “So you also, when you see all these things [described in verses 4-29], know that it [Christ’s second coming] is near, at the very doors.”

Nevertheless, Jesus warns that we will only know the approximate time of His return, that is, that it is close. He says in verse 36: “But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” We believe that time is quickly approaching, but we have no idea how soon it will be. The best approach is contained in the apostle Paul’s admonition to the Romans: “And do this [live godly], knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” If we live as if Christ will come tomorrow, we will always be striving to be prepared for it.
