I am sure you were too busy yesterday to watch Terry McAuliffe on “The Daily RunDown” (MSNBC). Terry, as you know is a successful businessman implementing an exciting business opportunity in the manufacture of “green” automobiles. In yesterday’s interview with host, Chuck Todd, Terry was quite passionate in his description of our problem with job creation and convincing in his ideas for a future course of action. Please watch this short video:
Sir, you know the players who are sitting on $2 trillion in capital that could be used to create jobs. You know the companies that have millions in taxes that need to be repatriated and you have power as President that some people feel you are slow to use. WE NEED TO SEE YOU BE ENGAGED, MAKING THINGS HAPPEN. I am tired of your detractors saying, “Well, he makes great speeches, but…” If necessary, be radical! Do whatever it takes to get the job done! Bless you!
The Tea Party‘s blindness to the harm it was causing us now rocks the globe. No one talks to the Tea Party but Eric Cantor and John Boehner. We keep waiting for them to come out with a mea culpa style press release saying that they have learned their lesson and are more than willing to work with all parts of The Congress, and the President, to fix the untenable way we have been governing our great country and repair any damage, real or imagined, to the “full faith and credit of the United States.” Monday our investors’ faith in stocks reached a new low in a selloff. But, as people sold stocks, what did they buy? AA+ Rated Treasury Bonds!Standard and Poor’s, whose own creditability is questioned, did not damage the intangible faith in the credit worthiness of The United States! The actions of this agency will have a positive effect by pushing self-serving political interests into abandoning their competing lust for individual victories and putting America’s health first in our domestic hearts.
Speaker John Boehner must denounce his zealous exclamation, “I got 98% of what I wanted” and with Eric Cantor and Mitch McConnell, guide all Republicans back to the tradition of why we send elected representatives to Washington, DC., i.e., to represent the people and not some political party or ideology. The Congress should volunteer to shorten their long vacations and resume their seats in The Capitol to work focused on one goal: To fix what has gone wrong with American politics avowing to forever sever a raise in the Debt Ceiling from any other issue. When were attacked and brought into World War II, we were welded into one nation with one goal: To defeat the forces of evil who were conspiring to rule the world. While evil was unable to dominate the world militarily, evil is not dead. It is strong and diverse and seeks to economically dominate the good people of the world. Witness large-scale computer hacking for economic advantage. Witness the starving masses in Somalia who are being kept hungry to conserve power over them. Witness dictators slaughtering their people to remain in power.
John Boehner, this mythical “98%” you got, what is it or what does it amount to? You and your Tea Party have done harm and must atone by ‘straightening up and flying right.’ That “big deal” you rejected must be put back on the table and passed into law. In a series of sober ads Rachel Maddow asks, “Can America do big things again?” It falls to you, John Boehner…and Eric Cantor and Mitch McConnell,,,and President Obama, to answer that salient question. The world expects us to function as we did when we we defeated the original “axis of evil.” Gentlemen, will you answer the call? The world is waiting!
The Right have made light of your qualifications to be President. Please know that you are at a crucial time in our history. Sir, you are the nexus between old America and old ways of governing, and a bright and flourishing new America. You don’t have to be told, “It’s jobs that will save us.” You know that your success at creating jobs or the climate for them will define your presidency. I know you will marshal great innovators and will develop a winning strategy to defeat our flagging economy.
Sir, do you or someone in your administration watch the talk shows on MSNBC? I watch most of them daily and respect the smart thinkers there who offer, what seems to me, great advice on the economy, governing, dealing with the Tea Party, etc. Now that money is so cheap for governments to borrow, I suggest again that you consider what may seem a little radical:A Works Progress Administration (WPA) for the 21st Century. You can use your EXECUTIVE POWER to create millions of jobs this way. People who bring home a paycheck go out and spend and create demand. Demand leads to hiring more workers. And, “Bob’s your uncle,” you have a bustling economy. Yes, to be radical takes courage. But, a missed opportunity would be death to our dominance in the world. Please consult your brain-trust with this idea.
Of course, <<ça va sans dire>> that your re-election is hinged upon your being the successful nexus that brings paychecks to our millions of unemployed. Let that success be to the glory of God and the Democratic Party. God chose you and gave you the challenge ‘to change the way Washington does business.’ Although you are quiet, you have the strength and resolve to try to realize the “change” you promised. You have the country behind you. The people are going sour on the Tea Party. Let’s hijack their progressive spirit, make it truly democratic and make America AMERICA AGAIN! God bless you with SUCCESS AS A PROGRESSIVE PRESIDENT!
: the art or practice of pushing a dangerous situation or confrontation to the limit of safety especially to force a desired outcome
Who pushed us toward a last-minute avoidance of a government shutdown in December of 2010 and, also, spearheaded the lack of compromise and intransigence in our recent negotiations with the US House? The same actors:
“According to the poll, more Americans view the Tea Party unfavorably than ever before: The percentage of Americans that views the Tea Party movement favorably has dropped six points to 20 percent since April, while the number of people who view the Tea Party unfavorably has jumped to 40 percent, up 11 percent from April.
Among Republicans, the drop in favorability is steeper: Favorable views of the Tea Party have dropped 18 points since April, to 41 percent.
Many Americans also think the Tea Party has an outsized influence on the Republican party: 43 percent believe the Tea Party has too much of an influence on the GOP, up from 27 percent who thought the same in April. Among Republicans, that figure has risen from just nine percent to 22 percent in the same timeframe.
Meanwhile, the percentage of Americans who identify themselves as supporters of the Tea Party movement has dropped to 18 percent. This number was at 31 percent immediately following the 2010 midterm elections.” [CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.]
So, Standard and Poors pulled the trigger. After the miserable display of governing the world’s only super by both political parties, we lost our “AAA” rating. And, we were warned! In the face of calamity did the Congress pull together and make a joint effort to stave off a seeming ‘impossibility’? Were they too arrogant? Were they too petty and single-minded in their desire for a political victory…at any cost? One analyst said that it was known that we had serious financial problems, but, they were escalated by the Tea Party’s lack of regard for the safety of our economy and their puzzling unwillingness to compromise and a strong desire to protect low tax rates for the rich, who are consumed by their lust for increasing wealth on the backs of the middle-class and the poor. This should be white-collar crime! Of course our massive debt and no end to unending unemployment factored into S&P’s decision. If only our leaders had a scintilla of vision! WE HAVE TO VOTE NEW PEOPLE INTO CONGRESS. THROW THE BUMS OUT!
I was happy this morning when the news reported that “the full faith and credit of the United States” will still mean a lot in financial circles and we should be able to bounce back like Japan did. [Note: Today, we borrow from Japan whose economy tanked in the ’80s.] I am sure more encouragement will come from analysts as the day moves on. It wouldn’t hurt to include our nation in your daily prayers.
“The Constitution guarantees that all persons born in the United States are U.S. citizens with only a handful of very rare exceptions. Nevertheless, in last night’s GOP candidate’s debate, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty criticized the Supreme Court for following the Constitution’s unambiguous language and promised to appoint justices who would strip many Americans of their citizenship:
This issue of birthright citizenship, again, brings up the importance of appointing conservative justices. That result is because the U.S. Supreme Court determined that that right exists, notwithstanding language in the Constitution. I’m the only one up here — I believe I’m the only one up here — whose appointed solidly, reliably conservative appointees to the court.” [SOURCE: THINKprogress]
“The Works Progress Administration
(renamed during 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA)
was the largest New Deal agency, employing millions to carry out public
works projects, including the construction of public buildings and roads, and operated large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects. It fed children and redistributed food, clothing, and housing. Almost every community in the United States had a park, bridge or school constructed by the agency, which especially benefited rural and Western populations. Expenditures from 1936 to 1939 totaled nearly $7 billion. By 1943, the total amount spent was over 11 billion.
Created by order of PresidentFranklinDelano Roosevelt, the WPA was funded
by Congress with passage of the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935 on April 8, 1935. The legislation had passed in the House of Representatives by a margin of 329 to 78, but was delayed by the Senate. The WPA continued and extended relief programs similar to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC), which was established by Congress in 1932 during the administration of Roosevelt’s predecessor Herbert Hoover. Headed by Harry Hopkins, the WPA provided jobs and income to the unemployed during the Great Depression in the United States. Between 1935 and 1943, the WPA provided almost eight
million jobs. Until ended by Congress and war employment during 1943, the WPA was the largest employer in the country. Most people who needed a job were eligible for at least some of its jobs. Hourly wages were the prevailing wages in each area;the rules said workers could not work more than 30 hours a week, but many projects included months in the field, with workers eating and sleeping on
worksites. Before 1940, there was some training involved to teach new skills
and the project’s original legislation had a strong emphasis on training.” [Source: Wikipedia]
Mr. President: I am simple senior citizen. I know you are having a hard time trying to solve our problems with a major focus on jobs. The WPA was before my time, but, I have read about it on the INTERNET. It was a large program created by the President at the time through EXECUTIVE ORDER. You have that power…to create a NEW WPA and create millions of jobs in this country to finally do something about the infrastructure and to give the nation a re-birth. It would be very complicated to do it now, I suppose. And, growing the government like this would be fought by republicans. Perhaps something like the WPA is doable. Please take a moment to view my video. I am just frustrated when I see the daily reports on unemployment and the economy. I just know that through the WPA people who wanted a job had a job. I am sure you will have some grand design in your next State of the Union address. I look forward to that. God bless you and God bless America!
