I am seeing news reports that say that republicans who voted for and supported Paul Ryan’s bill are now trying to walk it back. Every republican in the House voted for this bill, except four. Now there’s fallout or backlash. The people like Medicare and Social Security too much to endorse privatization. This plan has become a litmus test as whether you are conservative or not. Pundits are saying that this negative groundswell will benefit the democrats in coming elections. A new scheme for reform must be devised. Yes, there must be spending cuts, etc., but, it is imperative that the Bush Tax Cuts be repealed immediately!
Are our leaders out of ideas? Recent trial balloons show that the American people are not happy with our government. Our time has been wasted with conspiracies about a birth certificate and we see potential candidates try to distract us from their racist backgrounds. The President killed our NUMBER ONE ENEMY, but, he has yet to produce solutions to our problems. He is in the best position to get things done but is assailed by Republicans on all fronts. [Can no one fix our broken Congress?]
Speaker Bohner, GOP Leader Cantor and Minority LeaderMcConnell refuse to compromise with the President. They want to take his rule over the country away from him. They have a certain agenda and they want to use stubbornness to impose their agenda on us. Each day we feel powerless to get our leaders to respond to us and to see the big picture which is the American future. There is a lot of power in Washington to go around. LEADERS, IT IS TIME TO STOP THE DISTRACTIONS AND PROVIDE SOLUTIONS. IT’S TIME THROW PARTISANSHIP OUT THE WINDOW! God bless America!
Everyone will grow old in America. For over two decades the elderly have depended on Social Security and Medicare to carry them through their “golden years.” Some say Social Security will run out of money in 2037. It is a fact that Medicare and other healthcare is a huge part of our economy. We need our leaders and legislators to give us reform geared to helping the people and not the insurance industry (privatization) or GOP donors. For generations the people have depended on Democrats for social justice. We witness an excellent opportunity for the Democratic Party to exhibit its strength and governmental prowess. Democrats attend the American image which our immigrants have sought to be a part of. President Obama and democrats in Congress must not let this opportunity pass. We can restore our past glory. Won’t you join us?
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?” -Psalm 8:3-4
One evening, not long ago, I sat listening to Brooke Abbott, who heads up the “Come & Grow” spiritual growth component at the Crystal Cathedral. Each Wednesday night, she leads us through a stimulating study and discussion…most recently on the Omnipotence of God.
She shared with us information about God’s Creation that I had never heard before. Her revelations served to further my humble appreciation for God’s amazing attention to detail and strengthen my faith to believe that He made YOU (and me) TOTALLY special, and that we are very important to Him.
First, Brooke shared that our moon is approximately one-third the size of earth. No other known moons are as large in relation to the planet they orbit. Because of our moon’s relatively large size, its gravitational pull on earth restricts the tilt of earth’s axis. As a result, we experience reasonable (and much anticipated) seasonal climatic changes. If our moon were smaller, the earth’s axis would tilt more and much larger areas of the earth’s surface would become uninhabitable.
Secondly, our moon is round and solid. All other moons of solid (rock) composition are odd shaped, like a potato, causing them to spin awkwardly. An awkward spinning moon would have a devastating effect on earth.
Round moons are usually made of ice…and an ice moon would not provide the mass to generate the gravitational pull necessary to sustain our lives on earth. Our moon is the only round moon of solid (rock) composition…just the right size, so we all live within an extremely predictable environment when compared to other planets.
I share all of this with you simply to emphasize the incredible plan that God has for YOU…the remarkable perfection of the physical universe created and put in motion for YOU! Wow, what an amazing Lord we honor and serve.Prayer:
Oh God, “How great Thou art!” I praise YOU today…and find my delight in doing so. Amen.
PRESS “PLAY” AND BOW YOUR HEAD AND BLESS OUR ARMED FORCES AROUND THE WORLD
In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. It falls near the end of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May.
The day was created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard – following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but the separate days are still observed, especially within the respective services.
The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions and air shows. In 1962, President Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday. The United States’ longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, Washington. In 2009, Bremerton celebrated the 61st Armed Forces Day Parade().
Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May. [Wikipedia]
Newt Gingrich called President "the most successful food stamp President"
NEWT, YOUR CHARACTERIZATION OF PRESIDENT OBAMA IS *RACISM*
Newt, when you answered David Gregory‘s questions on Sunday, you spoke from your heart and were not the victim of adversarial trickery. You’re no Sarah Palin. Everyone says how smart you are. On Monday you tried to take back what you had said. You were reacting to political pressure. Anyone who watched you on “Meet the Press” on Sunday knows that you were lying on Monday. Shame on you! BTW, you have appeared on “Meet the Press” 35 times!
Also, everyone recognizes the code words you used: food stamps, Detroit, old religion, etc.
Will you be retiring in 10 years? Republicans have a health scheme for you which is shocking: Vouchers to get help when you’re sick!
By now you have heard of Rep. Paul Ryan‘s plan to end Medicare as we know. It does not pertain to those already on Medicare but to workers age 55 and under.Instead of a well-regulated healthcare system like Medicare, Ryan want the federal government to issue a VOUCHER to use to get healthcare insurance. The voucher surely won’t be enough to pay for the insurance. I ask you, “What insurance company would issue a policy to someone with golden year diseases?” Paul Ryan is a good man, but, his healthcare plan is a misery to old people…workers who have helped make America better all their lives.
Gee, what does the GOP want America to be like in the future? I begin by saying that the top 1% of the country (where the nation’s wealth is concentrated) can be assured that they can live anywhere in the world leaving behind New America (ten years from now). So, it troubles them not that our future will be like that of a third world country where many of our students won’t be able to go to school due to cuts in education. They won’t be able to rise to top leadership posts in business and government. They will not have had the benefits of Head Start, Sesame Street and educational TV. Colleges and universities will be so expensive that only the rich will be able to afford them. The one hope for meritorious students, scholarships, will be diminished. The cuts that Paul Ryan & Co want to establish will surely shrink our field of good nurses and doctors. How will lawyers survive? The good jobs of today will be filled in New America by the less qualified who are paid less. [Are you picturing New America in your mind?]
Republicans in Congress want to solve our economic problems on the backs of the poor and the middle class. The latter two are the ones always called to “lift that barrow, tote that bale.” They are the ones who strap on a gun to defend our Constitution. They are the ones who will grow old in New America and find retirement and old age pure misery. Right now Medicaid is suffering trying to take care of the aged poor in nursing homes. Although the middle class retired pay a monthly premium to be on Medicare, Paul Ryan and John Boehner want to shut down Medicare as we know it. In New America the retired will be given a voucher (not unlike a grocery store coupon) to use when going out to find medical insurance. What insurance company in the future would give a policy to someone who has the illnesses that afflict the elderly? None! Heaven help them if they touch Social Security, except to extend its life and benefits. The top 1% of the country will live on accumulated wealth in their literal “golden years.” The rest of us will look for Social Security benefits to live on. Although we will be too old (and too sick) to work, our daily expenses will continue. Social Security will be our lifeline!
It has been heartening to hear that many republicans got lots of flack when they went home the other day and presented their vision for “New America” to their constituents. We saw a town hall where Paul Ryan, himself, was harried and had to sneak out of the building and leave secretly. [No images of the latter.]
Meetings are going on at the Whitehouse to reach a compromise on the budget, debt ceiling/spending cut problems. Vice President Biden came out of one meeting yesterday and gave a hopeful message. Speaker of the House, John Boehner held a press conference where he painted a picture of democrats cowering and panicking as they were being forced to yield to the republicans. Just a few months ago Mr. Boehner said that he could see both sides reaching “common ground.” Now he shows no will to compromise. He sweats and defies the will of the people saying republicans will not vote for tax increases on the rich. The financial pull of the rich is remarkably strong. RICH PEOPLE! REPUBLICANS! You sit at the table of life eating high on the hog. Please elbow a little room so that the poor and middle class can eat. It’s the American thing to do!
