“THE AMERICAN JOBS ACT”
In his address to a joint session of Congress laying out his $400 billion economic plan, President Obama said that “every proposal I’ve laid out tonight is the kind that’s been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. Every proposal I’ve laid out tonight will be paid for. And every proposal is designed to meet the urgent needs of our people and our communities.”
But he also pointed out positions that have separated the White House from congressional Republicans, such as rolling back consumer protection measures, his health care reform plan and collective bargaining rights for union members.
Obama drew a line with hard-liners who have demanded only spending cuts, rejecting “this larger notion that the only thing we can do to restore prosperity is just dismantle government, refund everyone’s money, let everyone write their own rules, and tell everyone they’re on their own.” [CNN]
WELL, YOU HEARD PRESIDENT OBAMA’S SPEECH. WERE YOU EXCITED, INSPIRED TO ACT POLITICALLY? CONGRESS IS A BEAST THAT MUST BE PRODDED AND PUSHED. THE PRESIDENT NEEDS YOU TO EMAIL YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVE AND ASK THEM TO REACH COMMON GROUND WITH THE ADMINISTRATION. IF YOU HAVE BEEN HESITANT TO CONTACT OUR AUGUST OFFICIALS, THE TIME TO GET OVER IT IS NOW! ALSO, TALK ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S PROGRAMS ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA. TO EMAIL NOW, CLICK HERE.
It seems like a long time ago, but, it can be measured in a few months. Speaker Boehner was asked if republicans would be able to reach a compromise with democrats. Boehner said, “I think we can reach common ground.” What happened to that hopeful approach to solving our political problems? What happened is the rise of freshman TEA PARTY House members who never shared the Speaker’s dream. Speaker Boehner and the President were on the heels of a “big deal” in our recent crisis. And, then we lost momentum and ran out of gas. Perhaps if we refresh in our minds the optimistic and fresh approach republicans had, we can reach common ground, again. Watch this video:

On Labor Day, President Obama gave a stirring speech in Detroit. He was introduced by Teamsters leader, James Hoffa, whose remarks ginned up the crowd with colorful language:

RICK PERRY’S JOB CREATION CLAIMS
As America is introduced to Rick Perry of Texas, we hear claims from this governor who replaced Gov. George W, Bush that are not true. While a whole lot of jobs were created in Texas, Rick Perry cannot lay claim to them. Anderson Cooper of CNN explains:
“Cooper also noted some of the help the state received for its relative economic boom: $6.4 billion in federal stimulus money, which did not get rid of a serious budget shortfall in 2009. Cooper brought in Republican strategist Alex Castellanos and Democratic strategist Donna Brazile to parse these numbers, and Castellanos did argued that much of the federal money was taken from the states initially and so Perry had an argument that he was merely asking for money back that was taken from him.” Alex, if we allowed the states to reclaim their tax money, what would be point of taxes? GOP governors took money under false pretenses. They praised President for stimulus money with one of their tongues and decried the President with the other. Rick Perry’s is revealing his strange ideas about governance and the American people find them abhorrent.
PRESIDENT OBAMA IS BUT ONE PART OF OUR GOVERNMENT. MUCH OF HIS SUCCESS WILL COME FROM WORKING IN CONCERT WITH THE CONGRESS. DEMOCRATS CONTROL THE SENATE ALONG WITH A RABID TEA PARTY MINORITY LEADER. THE HOUSE IS CONTROLLED BY REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE LATCHED ONTO THE ENERGY OF THE FRESHMAN TEA PARTY REPRESENTATIVES. THE HOUSE MINORITY LEADER IS NOT VERY VOCAL.
MR.PRESIDENT, THE MEDIA IS FULL OF THE PEOPLE’S CALL FOR YOU TO PERFECT A NEW AND BOLD PERSONA AND NOT APPEAR TO GIVE INTO THE OPPOSITION. GO INTO NEGOTIATIONS “CARRYING A BIG STICK” AND DO NOT LET THE CONGRESS ‘GOBBLE YOU UP.’
