“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. …I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you…This I command you, to love one another.” -John 15:12-13, 15b, 16a, 17
Today the President and the First Lady take all of our prayers for the victims of the Tucson Massacre to a memorial service to be held on the campus of the University of Arizona. The service can be viewed at 8:00pm EST on MSNBC.
WASHINGTON — House leaders have announced plans for a bipartisan congressional prayer service on Wednesday to mark the weekend shooting that left Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords gravely wounded and six others dead.
Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nur) and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi say in a letter to lawmakers it is important to gather together and pray for the health of Giffords, those who died in the attack and those who were wounded.
Giffords was shot in the head on Saturday when a gunman opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol while she greeted constituents outside a Tucson, Ariz., grocery store.
Among the dead are an aide to Giffords, a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl.
A 22-year-old man, Jared Loughner, faces federal charges in the episode, with state charges also expected to be filed.

President Obama will lead the nation in a moment of prayerful silence at 11:00am, today to honor those injured and killed in the Tucson Massacre days ago.
The nation is very concerned about and is praying for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who was gunned down by legal gun owner. I recall how much Sarah Palin is into guns.
It is odd that days after the shooting, Palin, a media darling, has yet to come before what she dubbed “the lame stream media” and make a statement denouncing the attack on Congressman Giffords and a call for Congress to look at gun sales and regulation in the nation.
The November election was months ago, but, everyone remembers that curious and ominous statement by candidate, Sharon Angle of Nevada. She stated that when Americans are dissatisfied with their legislature, they should consider “their Second Amendment rights.”
When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven’t hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, (D-AZ)
God, please bless Rep. Gabrielle Giffords as she lies critically wounded. She was just doing her job when tragedy struck. She was talking to her constituents when someone tried to silence her voice. Please give her a full recovery. Father, please accept the prayer that Jesus gave us.
Heavenly Father, the 112th Congress has begun a perilous journey in governing the land. Please bless them with insight, wisdom and cautious daring. Make their term one of success and fruitfulness for the American people.
SPEAKER BOEHNER REFUSES TO BELIEVE CBO – DECIDES TO HIT THAT ICEBERG ANYWAY
SPEAKER BOEHNER gives no justification but refuses to believe the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis that repealing “Obamacare” would add to the Deficit. Hey says, “That’s their opinion.” Opinion? The CBO is the authority on which Congress relies for accuracy and trustworthiness. PLAY “So Funky It Stinks”
Along with the “Pomp and Circumstance” of being the President of the United States, Barack Obama has special powers and executive powers and military powers as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces. We have been given three branches of government which check each other in getting the people’s business done and in defending The Constitution. [Of course the three branches are the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches.] The 112th Congress will prove interesting. However, it could be continued obstruction and delay or with the power divided in Congress, the watchword could be COMPROMISE… (or as one prominent congressman prefers, “reaching common ground.” 🙂 The quick pace of legislating we witnessed in the lame duck session could be sustained and the stench of dysfunction could be purified with courageous action on bills in both houses of Congress. Have you prayed for this Congress and it’s leaders? Have you contacted your elected officials and voiced your opinions. CHECK THIS SITE. Where do you stand in the battle between FoxNews and MSNBC in covering the news from day-to-day? Do you use Twitter and Facebook to keep involved in the political process? I have not read “The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire,” but, I’ll bet somewhere in there is apathy! If we leave it to others to get it done, we should not whine and whimper about how President Obama or Congress is doing “nothing” (gridlock) and the Washington lobbyists have more sway over politicians than the very people who stood in line and voted them into office. Let’s all make America the exceptional nation it once was. It is our destiny! God bless the United States of America!
