“Democrats Confident That They Are Within Striking Distance Of Winning Back The Senate”

POLITICUS USA

Democrats are starting to feel confident they will win two key Senate races — and are within striking distance in several other states that would give them a majority when the next president takes office. The minority party believes it can pick off Illinois and Wisconsin from Senate Republicans, but that still leaves five core battleground states balanced on a knife’s edge as the GOP tries to protect its 54-seat majority.

“Obama to sign up for health insurance through exchange”

POLITICO

By Jennifer Epstein

President Obama will sign up for health insurance through an Affordable Care Act exchange, press secretary Jay Carney said Monday

“I don’t have an update for you on that. I know that he will and has said that he will,” Carney told reporters.

Asked when the registration will happen and whether the White House will make it open to the press, Carney responded:  “I’ll get back to you.”

Soon after the ACA passed, the White House had told USA Today that Obama would sign up for insurance through an exchange, and when POLITICO followed up earlier this year, a reporter was directed back to those comments.

Carney’s comments Monday were the first recent confirmation of the president’s plans. He has the option of choosing to work through the District of Columbia or his home state of Illinois.

I just finished reading the draft of a speech the President plans to deliver on Wednesday, and I want to explain why it’s one worth checking out.

Eight years ago, not long after he was elected to the United States Senate, President Obama went to Knox College in his home state of Illinois where he laid out his economic vision for the country. It’s a vision that says America is strongest when everybody’s got a shot at opportunity – not when our economy is winner-take-all, but when we’re all in this together.

Revisiting that speech, it’s clear that it sowed the seeds of a consistent vision for the middle class he’s followed ever since. It’s a vision he carried through his first campaign in 2008, it’s a vision he carried through speeches like the one he gave at Georgetown University shortly after taking office that imagined a new foundation for our economy and one in Osawatomie, Kansas on economic inequality in 2011 — and it’s a vision he carried through his last campaign in 2012.

“Republican Aaron Schock Gay?”

Published on Sep 4, 2012 by

GOP Congressman Aaron Schock of Illinois, the subject of persistent gay rumors since he took office in 2009, said on Thursday that questions about his sexual orientation and how it might relate to his antigay voting record and positions are “inappropriate and ridiculous” and not “worthy of further response.” He also stated, “I’ve said that before,” when asked if he is confirming that he is not gay, and added, “You can look it up.” Schock had in fact stated to Details magazine in 2009 that he is not gay, in a lengthy piece which noted that he is unmarried and had been the subject of rumors as far back as 2004, when he was asked the question by a Chicago newspaper. The rumors, however, have only surfaced again and again…”.* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

NY Times Calls Out Mitt Romney’s AD as “Blatantly False”

“Blatantly false” welfare attacks
This morning, the Romney campaign released an ad that
contains outright lies about the President’s welfare reform efforts.
President Obama has given states more flexibility so that
they can increase their work placement rate among welfare
recipients by at least 20 percent. Yet, Romney’s ad says
the President has ended the work requirement — which The
New York Times calls “blatantly false.” President Clinton,
who reformed welfare, said Romney’s claims are “not true.”
Even Newt Gingrich said there’s “no proof” that Romney’s ad
is accurate. The ad also says that President Obama was
against welfare-to-work as an Illinois state senator
another blatant lie. He worked across the aisle to pass
Illinois‘ welfare-to work law, even winning praise from
Republican leaders for being “not your typical party-line
politician” and willing to find compromise to get it done.
We recorded a video to tell the truth about Romney’s
attacks, which you should check out and share with others:
