THE VOTE IS A PRECIOUS RIGHT

COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF HAS POTENT WEAPON! 1

RE-POST

Along with the “Pomp and Circumstance” of being the President of the United States, Barack Obama has special powers and executive powers and military powers as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces.  We have been given three branches of government which check each other in getting the people’s business done and in defending The Constitution. [Of course the three branches are the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches.]  The 112th Congress will prove interesting. However, it could be continued obstruction and delay or with the power divided in Congress, the watchword could be COMPROMISE… (or as one prominent congressman prefers, “reaching common ground.” 🙂  The quick pace of legislating we witnessed in the lame duck session could be sustained and the stench of dysfunction could be purified with courageous action on bills in both houses of Congress.  Have you prayed for this Congress and it’s leaders?  Have you contacted your elected officials and voiced your opinions. CHECK THIS SITE. Where do you stand in the battle between FoxNews and MSNBC in covering the news from day-to-day?  Do you use Twitter and Facebook to keep involved in the political process?  I have not read “The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire,” but, I’ll bet somewhere in there is apathy! If we leave it to others to get it done, we should not whine and whimper about how President Obama or Congress is doing “nothing” (gridlock) and the Washington lobbyists have more sway over politicians than the very people who stood in line and voted them into office. Let’s all make America the exceptional nation it once was. It is our destiny!  God bless the United States of America!

Russia election: Vladimir Putin seeks third term

Polling stations in Russia’s far east have opened as the presidential election gets underway.

Sunday’s vote sees Vladimir Putin hoping to become president again after four years as prime minister.

Mr Putin was Russia’s president from 2000-2008, but was barred by the constitution from standing for a third consecutive term.

He faces four challengers, three of whom he has defeated in previous elections.

The election is being held against a backdrop of popular discontent, sparked by allegations of fraud during December’s parliamentary elections.

Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm in each time zone, with the first opening in the Far East of the country at 20:00 GMT on Saturday, and the last in the western Kaliningrad region closing at 17:00 GMT on Sunday.

The Interior Ministry is bringing 6,000 police reinforcements to Moscow from the regions, according to Russian media reports.  [BBC News]  MORE

Reid holds congressional insider trading bill’s future in his hands
By Mike Lillis

Popular legislation designed to prevent congressional insider trading has been idling for weeks as strange political dynamics complicate Sen. Harry Reid’s decision on a path forward.

Moving the STOCK Act wasn’t supposed to be complicated, but differences over a key section of the bill on political intelligence have created unusual political bedfollows and left supporters waiting anxiously for action from Reid.

BILL CLINTON: A Sermon on Politics: ‘All of Us See Through the Glass Darkly’ 1

Politics and political involvement dictated by faith is not the exclusive province of the right wing.

Religious values can include commitment to the common good, concern for the poor and vulnerable, the middle class families, the preservation of our God-given environment, unity over division, and for truth in campaign advertising.

We have a curious situation in American where the religious right has tried to turn all who disagree with them into two-dimensional cartoons. I read a very moving article in one of our newspapers a few days ago in which someone in the president’s hometown said all the Democrats cared about was abortion, gay marriage, and being weak on defense.

I have never met anybody that was pro abortion. That is not what pro-choice means. It just means we don’t want to criminalize the choice. I’m not ashamed to believe that gay people shouldn’t be discriminated against and I don’t believe Jesus ever had much to say about that. When Charlie Rangel fought in Korea and John Kerry fought in Vietnam they did not ask what their political party was before they let them put a uniform on.

I was raised a Southern Baptist. I used to wonder why the Republicans hated me so much. I’m kind of nice and accommodating. I even go duck hunting once a year. I think it’s because I’m supposed to be some sort of apostate – a white, southern, protestant. Why am I not a Republican, especially now that they’ve given me all those tax cuts?

The other party’s about to convene here, putting on its once-every-four-years compassionate face. They have claimed the exclusive allegiance of America’s “real Christians.”

Want to know how much corruption is costing you? 1

Auction 2012: 30 Million Jobs and the Election

This week, I’m pleased to bring you an important discussion about what we should be talking about this election season. Corruption. The Huffington Post, the Dylan Ratigan Show, and United Republic will be holding a weeklong series on the costs of our bought government. We’ll look into corruption in banking, energy, health care, trade, and education. We’ll show you how much corruption is costing you, personally. And we’ll trace the money behind it all.

Why are we doing this? Because this is what American elections should be about, not SuperPACs and trivia. During the financial crisis, a US senator asked me, “does the government regulate Wall Street, or does Wall Street, with their billions and billions of dollars, regulate the government through lobbying and campaign financing?” This question is at the root of what ails us as a nation… READ ENTIRE ARTICLE .
