Savannah Guthrie took charge for David Gregory yesterday on “Meet the Press.” She came well-prepared and did an excellent job. I especially liked her questions for Rand Paul of Kentucky who is the second most vocal Republican in the news. When asked to take ownership for his part in the GOP shutdown, Senator Paul took the coward’s way out by deflecting the questions with talking points and slick rhetoric. It was ludicrous of him to attempt blaming the shutdown on Democrats. Mr. Paul even refused to respond to the suffering the American people are experiencing because Republicans are ignoring the will of the people who are overwhelmingly against shutting down the U.S. government to gain a political advantage. They don’t all watch Fox: They watch the real news and know that it is Republicans who are putting American lives at risk and harming the welfare of the American family which does not have the resources to withstand the loss of paychecks for an undetermined length of time. Rand Paul is so ego-driven that he thinks Republicans should dictate to Democrats who enjoy a larger share of government power. Mr. Paul, the American people call a spade a spade. They say that “this is a GOP shutdown” and voters will hold Republican Party to account. It is time for Republicans and the Tea Party element to yield!

North Korea probably lacks the ability to deliver nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles but the United States must be prepared for “every contingency out there,” President Obama said in an exclusive TODAY interview recorded just before the Boston Marathon explosions.
“Based on our current intelligence assessments we do not think that they have that capacity,” Obama told Savannah Guthrie. However, North Korea’s history of consistently erratic behavior has forced the Pentagon to take all necessary precautions.
“We have to make sure that we are dealing with every contingency out there. And that’s why I’ve repositioned missile defense systems to guard against any miscalculation on their part,” he said in a wide-ranging interview. The first part of the discussion aired Tuesday.

Kudos to Savannah Guthrie for excellent questions put to candidate for President Rick Santorum this morning. Santorum was wearing the best facial makeup money can buy, but, when pressed to defend his campaign staying in the race, he could only refer back to the failed Huckabee campaign. Following the Santorum segment, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) endorsed Mitt Romney for President. However, Johnson would not say that Santorum and Newt Gingrich should “get out of the race.” Johnson continued with his criticism of President Obama and omitted the Republican War being waged at every level against his re-election. Following this was one with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Guthrie continued her pressing questions delving into the President’s record. Senator Schumer ended his segment by saying that Latinos are decidedly for Obama.
